THE LOCAL GUIDE FOR DEEP INTERESTS

Choose Your Next Sidequest

Sidequests is a Los Angeles field guide for people who want more than a pin and a star rating. It is built around what you will actually notice, learn, play, tour, research, or photograph when you arrive.

Original Obsession Context

Every listing explains the machinery, story, artifact, collection, or idea that makes the stop worth your attention.

Visitability First

Open, lawful experiences remain destination recommendations. Context-only homes and vanished sites are visibly labeled, privacy-safe, and never offered as routes.

Unknown Means Unknown

Missing accessibility or policy details are shown as unknown. They are never silently converted into “no.”

Evidence You Can Inspect

Claims, visitor details, and images carry provenance, check dates, and an editorial confidence state.
HOME OF BIG IDEAS

Ideas Have Addresses. Privacy Has Boundaries.

An editorial collection connects 46 homes, vanished sites, salons, and idea hubs to the writers, scientists, collaborators, mentors, and guests who made them matter. It appears within All Obsessions and has its own exact obsession filter. Private markers identify only a broad area—or are withheld entirely. The app never offers directions to private, approximate, demolished, or fire-recovery records.
LOCATION PRIVACY

Your Exact Position Is Ephemeral

Sidequests asks for foreground location only after you press “Use my location.” The exact result is used in memory to rank nearby places and is never put into URLs, analytics, logs, submissions, or saved account records. Manual city and ZIP discovery remains available when permission is denied. A city or ZIP query is sent to our configured search service only after you submit it.
MAPS AND DIRECTIONS

OpenStreetMap, Rendered With MapLibre

The map uses OpenStreetMap data, OpenMapTiles, and maps hosted by OpenFreeMap, displayed with MapLibre. Sidequests does not download offline map tiles or send search requests while you type.
